My Summer Internship in Neuroinformatics at ETH Zurich
During the summer of 2026, I had the opportunity to spend ten weeks as a Research Intern at the Institute of Neuroinformatics, a joint institute of ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich, in Zurich, Switzerland.
What made this experience particularly meaningful was being part of a real research team and having the opportunity to observe firsthand how research is conducted and discussed among academics and researchers. Seeing how a research question is approached, how simulations are designed and interpreted, and how results are evaluated gave me a much deeper understanding of the research process.
The analyses and simulations I carried out using COMSOL and MATLAB, and especially seeing the importance of computational simulations in an actual research project, were extremely rewarding from a professional perspective. It was fascinating to see how concepts that I had previously encountered mainly in theory could be applied to a real scientific problem.
This internship was an unforgettable experience for me, not only because of the technical knowledge and skills I gained, but also because it gave me a firsthand look at what it means to work as part of an academic research environment. It strengthened my interest in engineering and research and encouraged me to continue pursuing opportunities where I can combine theoretical knowledge with practical scientific work.
